In a conversation at a recent Multnomah County Democrats meeting, it was suggested to me that using the name “peace caucus” might imply that people who were not members were not interested in peace and create bad feeling, and suggested using another term, perhaps “working group.” But in e-mailing with Ben Talley, the contact person for the Peace Caucus of the Democratic Party of Oregon, he said that the bylaws of the state Peace Caucus [see on documents page] includes provision for affiliated county caucuses (also referred to in the bylaws as county chapters). Under those circumstances, I’m inclined to stick with the term caucus. However, if other people do think that the term would be divisive, I suppose we could define the group formally as a county caucus for purposes of affiliation with the state caucus, but name it in another way. Thoughts?
